New Research Study for Adults 50+ With Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR)
If you’ve been diagnosed with PMR and are taking prednisone or another steroid, you may be able to join a no-cost research study evaluating an investigational treatment used alongside your standard steroid care.
Understanding Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) in Adults 50+
Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is an inflammatory condition that causes pain and stiffness in the shoulders and hips, often worst first thing in the morning. That morning stiffness can last 45 minutes or longer and make everyday activities like getting out of bed, getting dressed, and moving comfortably harder than they should be.
PMR is usually treated with a steroid such as prednisone. Steroids often help at first, but symptoms can return or flare as the dose is lowered, and many patients and doctors would prefer to limit long term steroid use.
If you are age 50 or older, have been diagnosed with PMR, and are currently taking prednisone or another steroid, you may be able to take part in a clinical research study evaluating an investigational treatment used along with your standard steroid care. The goal of the study is to better understand additional treatment options for people living with PMR.
The study is being conducted at select locations across the U.S. If you qualify, all study-related care is provided at no cost, and compensation for time and travel may be available.

● Are currently taking prednisone or another steroid for your PMR
● Still have shoulder or hip pain and morning stiffness, or symptoms that return as your steroid dose is lowered
About the Study
This research study is for adults age 50 or older who have ongoing shoulder and hip pain with stiffness, symptoms often seen in a condition called polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR).
The study lasts a little over one year and includes about 25 to 30 clinic visits, with visits scheduled about every two weeks. Participants will meet regularly with a research doctor and study team, receive study injections, and take prednisone as part of standard care. The study team will monitor symptoms, movement, and overall health during clinic visits and routine lab tests.
Participation in the study is voluntary and at no cost. All study-related visits, study medication, lab tests, and procedures are provided at no cost. Compensation for time and travel may be available for those who qualify.
