Explore a Study for Children and Teens Struggling with Bipolar Depression

Learn about a no-cost clinical trial evaluating an investigational study drug for children and teens ages 10 to 17 diagnosed with Bipolar I or II Disorder and currently experiencing a major depressive episode (MDE).

What Is Pediatric Bipolar Depression?

Bipolar depression is part of bipolar disorder, a serious mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings, including periods of depression and episodes of mania or hypomania. In children and teens, these mood changes can be intense and disruptive, affecting school, relationships, and daily life.

Bipolar I disorder includes full manic episodes, while Bipolar II disorder involves hypomanic episodes, both are linked to recurring major depressive episodes (MDEs), which can include low mood, fatigue, sleep issues, and feelings of hopelessness.

Bipolar disorder often begins in adolescence, but effective treatment options for depression in young people are limited. Clinical research is urgently needed to find therapies that are both safe and effective for this age group.

FILL OUT THE FORM IF A CHILD OR TEEN IN YOUR CARE MEETS THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA

● Between 10 and 17 years old
● Has been diagnosed with Bipolar I or Bipolar II Disorder
● Is currently experiencing a major depressive episode (lasting at least 4 weeks)
● Has had at least one past manic or hypomanic episode

About the Study

Bipolar disorder can have a serious impact on young people, especially when depressive episodes affect school, relationships, and daily functioning. While treatments exist for adults, there are limited options approved for children and teens with bipolar depression.

This clinical trial is evaluating an investigational study drug to determine if it can safely and effectively treat major depressive episodes (MDEs) in children and adolescents with Bipolar I or II Disorder.

Participants will take the study drug or placebo once daily for six weeks, with regular clinic visits and health assessments throughout the study.

All study-related care, exams, and medication are provided at no cost, and compensation may be available for time and travel.

Why Participate?

Bipolar depression in children and teens can be difficult to manage, and current treatment options are limited. This clinical trial is testing an investigational medication to help improve outcomes for youth living with Bipolar I or II Disorder.

No-cost Study Care

You will receive study-related care from experienced doctors, nurses, and research staff.

Exams

The study will include physical examinations, laboratory work, ECG, questionnaires and other examination visits with a trained investigator.

Compensation May Be Provided

You might be eligible to receive compensation for your time and travel.
